EXOTICA

Commissioned by CHAPTER

Performed at: Chapter Arts Centre April 05, April 06 and at Edinburgh Fringe Festival 06.

Exotica encounters the hybrid transformations between human-animal, body-apparition.

My body- a costume which is living

Dancing to inhabit a realm between worlds- nature-civilisation, everyday reality- mythological dreamt realities, living- dead.

…I began by researching the Orissa dance of Brazil/West Africa and Greek island pagan beliefs of mythological human-animal encounters with the spirit world.

Through the morphing of Body with costume- forms and memories disappear.

The body costume reflects and consumes fragments of everyday and mythological life, human-animal histories, reforming and evolving itself into a hybrid being.

A species of human, who is at once an existential and fantastical being.
